After completing my studies, the search for my first real job was of course exciting. It's challenging to determine what you're looking for with minimal experience. I knew I wanted an entry-level position, and my choice for CloudSuite was largely based on intuition. The first interview felt pleasant and relaxed, and when I had to take an assessment as part of the hiring process, I thought: yes, finally doing something I studied for! A few days later, Siebe called to offer me the job, and I started as a Junior Designer.

Compact design team

At CloudSuite, we currently have a team of three Designers. We collaborate well and often work together on various projects. When I go on vacation, I never have to wonder who will cover my work; it just happens. We work in a hybrid model at CloudSuite—usually, I work three days a week in the office and two days from home. I appreciate this balance between work and personal life.

Standard product, but not standard design

The CloudSuite platform is a standard product with a default theme, but as a designer, you can deviate from it. The challenge lies in transforming the standard theme to meet the customer's wishes, branding, and/or brand image.

My days are diverse, from creating detailed wireframes for a new client to working with a Front-end Developer on changes to an existing webshop.

We use the scrum methodology at CloudSuite, which suits me well. Recently, I switched scrum teams to streamline the process. As a UX designer, I also have the opportunity to conduct research and contribute to making the product continuously better for users.

In less than two years, I was promoted to Medior Designer.

Pixel perfect design

I consider myself a pixel-perfect designer—yes, I'm a perfectionist. I love creating beautiful visuals that convey a feeling. I enjoy giving advice on colors and fonts and prefer direct contact with the client. Recently, I presented my design a few times. It helps the client understand design choices better, and it's nice to discuss feedback together. I'm open to all suggestions and work until everyone is satisfied.

Effort is rewarded

A while back, our team lead, Chris, became a father and took four weeks of leave. We worked as a duo, with the help of a freelancer. It's great to say that the freelancer later joined our team! Another example of how we seize opportunities at CloudSuite.

I was the contact person for the department at that time. It was initially challenging, but I felt the need to prove myself. Fortunately, I naturally stay calm in stressful situations, and planning and delegating come naturally to me. That month went well, and CloudSuite recognized it—after less than two years with the company, I was promoted to Medior Designer.

I entered here inexperienced and have developed broadly in the past three years. I've become more assertive, ask questions more quickly, and have taken on more responsibilities. Of course, I am critical of myself, and my environment is too, but CloudSuite makes me feel every day that I'm doing well—what more could you want?
