Youssef Kasem - Front-end Developer

After completing my education as an IT administrator, I gained work experience through various temporary positions. I have a natural hunger for new knowledge and self-development, so I soon felt the urge to go back to school. That's why I continued my studies in application and media development. Later, I worked at a small WordPress agency for a while. When I started looking for a larger company where I could learn more and had more opportunities for growth, I got in touch with CloudSuite through a recruiter. That was almost five years ago now.

Schaalbaar platform

At CloudSuite, we've developed a scalable e-commerce platform offered to mid-sized companies across various industries. You might not realize it, but there's a good chance the online store where you recently bought your glasses or paint runs on CloudSuite. As a mid-level developer, I focus on the front-end aspect of our platform. This involves redesigning webshops, repositioning elements, or integrating new features. I utilize technologies like JavaScript, TypeScript, and SassScript in this process.

Component library

A special project I'm currently heavily involved in is our component library. Here, we store all the functionalities we have developed for clients over time. Previously, we used individual themes extensively; now, everyone can access this database more quickly and easily.

Onboarding

Additionally, I am actively involved in onboarding new team members on a daily basis. For instance, I provide CMS training to new front-end developers, and I am there to support them when they have questions or face challenges in their work. At CloudSuite, we prioritize a strong onboarding process for new employees. A successful start for a new team member ultimately benefits the entire team.

Developing in sprints

As you would expect from a smoothly functioning development team, we operate according to the Scrum methodology in sprints. Currently, we have two Scrum teams. We kick off each day with a daily stand-up. What's going well, and where are we facing challenges? Every Monday, we hold a refinement meeting to discuss the tasks for the upcoming sprints. Bi-weekly, on Wednesdays, we conduct a sprint review. What have we achieved with both teams? Does anyone have ideas on how we can handle certain tasks better or faster in the future?

Working as a team

Working according to Scrum is incredibly satisfying for me. It provides structure and specific boundaries; you know exactly what agreements you make with each other and can also clearly pinpoint where something goes wrong in the process. Additionally, it strengthens the team bond - everything we do, we do as a team.

Informal ánd professional

Besides the growth opportunities, I was immediately drawn to the atmosphere and culture at CloudSuite. It's professional, yet informal - a flat organization where managers are always approachable. This creates an open atmosphere and fosters dynamic conversations.

Company outings

I know most of my colleagues well, or I get to know them better during one of our many outings. How about a long weekend of partying, dining, and sailing in Valencia with the entire company?

Keep learning

I am very proud of the progress I've made in the last five years. I've gained a lot of new knowledge, become more independent, and have been given more responsibilities. In short, I've become better. This recently led to my promotion from junior to mid-level developer. I owe this to myself, but also to CloudSuite. The pleasant and structured quarterly meetings have helped me, where you set your goals and receive feedback. The training sessions have also contributed; every front-end developer has access to an online training platform where you can enhance your hard skills at various levels. As long as I keep learning and evolving, my journey with CloudSuite won't end.
